HLA-PRG-LA Docker Container

HLA-PRG-LA is a algorithm built to genotype human leukocyte antigen (HLA) types from whole genome and whole exome next generation sequencing data from Illumina and some support with longer read technologies from Pacific Biosciences and Oxford Nanopore. HLA is a very interesting target to research as it is very important to the human immune system and how the body fights viral infections. At the point of development, installation of this version of the algorithm was fairly painful and labor intensive due to the high number of libraries and dependencies required. Furthermore, this algorithm is CPU and memory intensive and coupled with the need to be able to process tens to hundreds of samples at once, a better solution was needed for scalability. HLA-PRG-LA was dockerized in order to quickly scale analysis with elastic computing technologies.

See the github page here to learn more about how to use the algorithm and here for more information about what the algorithm actually does and how it performs.
